Galle Fort

Season · Dec – Apr

Portuguese builders began the fortifications at Galle before the Dutch greatly expanded them and the British later adapted the town. Today the fort remains a living neighbourhood of homes, schools, places of worship, shops and hotels beside the Indian Ocean.

A well-paced visit combines the ramparts, lighthouse, museums and side streets with time for local food and the conservation story of this World Heritage site.
